Prioritization of Urgency of Need for Services
We are pleased to be able to work with your child and family. One of the services we strive to provide is information about resources that can assist families who have children with developmental disabilities. In order to do this, we would like to provide you with two pieces of information: 1). “The Book”: How to Navigate the Illinois Disability System; and 2). Share information about registering on the PUNS list.
The State of Illinois does have a system for providing funding through the Department of Human Services. The first step toward getting services in Illinois is filling out the PUNS survey. PUNS stand for Prioritization of Urgency of Need for Services. In order to be eligible for PUNS funding you must register your child as a person in need of support and update it annually. Registration is a two-step process where paperwork is completed and a face-to-face meeting with an Independent Service Coordination Agent is held. These meetings can be arranged through Day One Network in Geneva. They can be contacted at 630/879-2277.
Additional information about the PUNS purpose and process can be found on the attached sheet or at the Department of Human Services website – www.dhs.state.il.us.
We encourage you to further consider and look into both of these resources and are happy to assist you in any way possible.
